When you think of the word education, most people probably think of going to school as a kid, graduating high school and then perhaps going off to college to get a degree or even a graduate degree. For me, my real education started once I had graduated from pharmacy school and was working the Monday through Friday 9 to 5.
Once I had graduated and found a job, it was a strange feeling. There was no more studying or taking exam. All I had to do was just show up to work and work for 8 hours and then leave. It seemed like everything I had worked for up until this point had just happened and now, I was going through the motions of the day to day. I knew right away, this is not how my life would play out.
My first job was located about 50 minutes from my house on a good day with no traffic or bad weather. This left me an hour and a half to 2 hours of time spent in my car driving. I turned this wasted driving time into my time of development. I’m talking audio books and podcasts specifically.
I had been so focused on becoming a pharmacist that I literally had no time to explore other areas of interest in my life. The time I spent driving to and from work allowed me to explore those areas. After completing each audio book or podcast, I was constantly thirsty to learn more about whatever topic I was listening to. When people hear the word personal development book, they probably think of some rare foo foo type of book that would make the reader feel better about themselves but not actually have substantial information in it. I classify personal development books as any book that will teach you something in a field that you didn’t know about before and also be able to apply it to your life.
Some topics I learned about included investing, time management, how to set goals, staying consistent to reach goals, real estate, personalities, and the list goes on and on. These areas were never taught in my schooling and while listening in the car, it didn’t feel like I was back in school at all most likely due to the interesting nature of the material. I couldn’t and still can’t get enough of listening to audios in the car to and from work. Instead of listening to the radio full of commercials or music all the time that in reality, doesn’t do anything for you besides relaxation, I listen to personal development books that drive me forward as a person that gives me tools to help me reach my goals.
Literally any type of topic that you’re wanting to know more about can be found on a podcast or audio book. Education does not need to be paid for anymore. Everything can be found on the internet. It comes to you being intentional for what you’re wanting and then executing to make it happen. The cycle looks something like this:
For anything you’re wanting to achieve in your life personally or in your business can be achieved by educating yourself on the topic. Podcasts and audio books are an incredible way and time saving strategy to help you reach your goals while also still being able to maintain your current way of going about your day to day 9-5 lifestyle.
